Advance Contact Is Essential for Proper Care
It is essential to contact us in advance before visiting, so our dentist can assess your case ahead of time, understand the urgency, and determine the best way to assist you. This step is crucial to ensure you receive the ideal treatment—with the speed, safety, and efficiency your situation requires.
By reaching out via phone or WhatsApp, our team of specialists can guide you through the initial steps and schedule your emergency appointment based on the dentist’s availability. This way, you avoid long waits and arrive at the clinic with a clear action plan for resolving your dental issue.
If you experience a serious accident with orofacial trauma, please go to the nearest hospital or call 193 immediately. This ensures that any other life-threatening injuries are treated without delay. However, if you are facing a dental emergency, contact Salus Clinic right away for expert advice or to schedule an appointment. We understand Portuguese, English, Spanish, and Arabic.

This comprehensive training makes her a well-rounded specialist, fully equipped to expertly handle a wide range of urgent dental situations with precision and care.
Regardless of the nature of your dental emergency, it is essential to seek the help of a qualified dentist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. With the right guidance, it is possible to relieve pain, address cosmetic or infectious issues, and even treat trauma and oral bleeding. Early care can prevent serious complications and help avoid tooth loss in the future.
In cases of orofacial trauma (such as physical assault, falls, or accidents), two main types of dental emergencies may occur: tooth fracture and tooth avulsion..
A dental fracture can occur after a strong impact to the teeth. The appropriate treatment depends on the location of the fracture (whether in the crown or root area), which can be diagnosed through a clinical exam, X-rays, or tomography. These fractures may cause tooth pain when exposed to heat, cold, pressure, or during chewing. If you have fractured one or more teeth, contact our clinic immediately. Our specialists can provide the necessary treatment to restore dental aesthetics, relieve pain, and whenever possible, prevent tooth loss.
Dental avulsion (knocked-out tooth) is a complex trauma involving injury to multiple oral structures. Immediate reimplantation within the first 15–20 minutes is the treatment of choice. Even under adverse conditions—such as when the storage medium for the avulsed tooth is not ideal or when there is a prolonged time after avulsion—reimplantation should still be attempted.
The main goal after dental avulsion is to prevent the tooth from drying out, preserving the vitality of the periodontal ligament. If possible, handle the tooth by the crown (never by the root), gently rinse it with water, and try to reposition it into the socket (the place where the tooth was knocked out). If repositioning is not possible, store the tooth in the following order of preference: milk, saliva (inside the cheek), saline solution, or as a last resort, water. Then, seek immediate dental care or contact our clinic for further instructions.
Toothache is the most common dental emergency at our clinic. Dental pulpitis usually occurs in a fractured tooth (resulting from trauma) or a deep cavity that reaches the dental pulp, which is richly innervated and vascularized. These lesions allow bacteria to enter the tooth and may lead to the formation of a dental abscess.
Injuries causing inflammation or infection of the dental nerve result in unbearable tooth pain that does not subside with painkillers. In such cases, urgent endodontic treatment (root canal therapy) is required. When successful, this treatment immediately relieves pain and allows you to keep the affected tooth instead of having to extract it.
After root canal treatment, the tooth becomes devitalized and weakened, and it may be necessary to place a dental crown to protect it.
A dental or gingival abscess is a bacterial infection that develops in the tooth or gums. Usually, for an abscess to form, the tooth must be fractured or have a deep cavity reaching the dental pulp. With bacterial infection of the pulp, the dental nerve can become necrotic, and bacteria may spread to the roots, causing the development of a dental abscess.
Treatment for this abscess involves the administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics, abscess drainage, endodontic treatment (root canal therapy), and, if necessary, the placement of a dental crown afterward.
It is crucial not to self-medicate, as this can worsen the infection, potentially leading to serious conditions such as sinusitis, osteomyelitis, meningitis, sepsis, and in extreme cases, death.
Continuous oral bleeding usually occurs after a tooth extraction. In cases of orofacial trauma, ongoing oral bleeding may be caused by a laceration injury, which might require suturing.
